What We Did
On Wednesday December 18, 2024, Jordan Dittloff, Victoria's Lead Senate Candidate and volunteers from the Victorian division of the Libertarian Party ran a groundbreaking campaign to highlight the true impact of government excise on fuel prices. Partnering with the APCO in Cranbourne West, Melbourne's outer south-eastern suburbs, we provided motorists with an extraordinary opportunity to purchase fuel without the burden of government excise and taxes. The current excise cost is 50.6c per L, and is indexed, and increases twice per year.
Our volunteers served 238 customers, filling up 10,594 litres of fuel across all types. The atmosphere was electric, with dozens of Libertarian volunteers working tirelessly to fill tanks and spread our message. Media outlets across the country took notice, with extensive coverage on Channel 9, Channel 7, the Herald Sun, the Daily Mail, and local papers as well. Smiles from happy drivers were priceless as they experienced the real cost of fuel without government interference.
Why We Did It
Every Australian feels the pinch at the pump, but few realize how much of their hard-earned money is swallowed by government excise and taxes. This campaign was designed to pull back the curtain, showcasing just how affordable fuel could be without excessive government intervention.
By creating this tangible example, we aimed to foster a conversation about the cost of living and the role of government in everyday expenses. Our goal was to demonstrate the real-world benefits of lower taxes and smaller government.
The Vision for Victoria’s Future
The Libertarian Party envisions a nation where individuals keep more of their income, and the government takes less. A future where:
-
Fuel prices reflect the free market, not excessive taxation.
-
Families and businesses thrive without burdensome costs.
-
Government interference is minimized, giving power back to the people.
With lower taxes and less government interference, we believe Australia can be a beacon of freedom and prosperity.
